Crack Fill
In filling cracks, we apply hot rubberized liquid asphalt. Crack fill effectively keeps water from entering the crack and weakening the base and/or sub-base. Weaknesses in the base or sub-base results in loss of structural support, that in turn, causes additional cracking or faulting. By filling cracks, there is some control over the base and sub-base conditions, pavement interference, and crack growth, thus extending your pavements life.
Cracks in the pavement should be filled annually to ensure optimal longevity. Crack fill is best applied with the crack dry, and clean of debris. Filling applies to everything from county roads to driveways, and is an inexpensive way to maintain asphalt.
Crack sealing is the single most cost effective pavement maintenance practice around. Crack sealing will prevent cracks from spreading and inhibit water from infiltrating sub-base causing more extensive damage such as pot holes and alligator cracks.
In some instances, crack sealing can delay an overlay and help extend the life of your parking surface.
The method of crack sealing used varies according to the size, direction and extent of the crack damage. Generally, hot crack fillers or rubberized ‘gator’ patches are used after the crack is prepared accordingly.
